Building relationships builds a business

That first love

In many ways, Yvonne Randolph’s business found her.

Yvonne studied interior design in college but opted for a career in naturopathic medicine. She did a string of interior design for family and friends on the side and ended up being referred from one person to another. Before she knew it, she was back in the game and her first love, interior design, had found its way back to her.

The art of slow living

Yvonne’s passion for design is driven by personal experience. She likes the spaces she curates to have a sense of wonder and joy.

As there’s lots of moving parts to her business, each project involves multiple clients, contractors and vendors. Yvonne found that the best way to juggle everything in style was patience, perspective and slowing down. Xero helped Yvonne do this, by simplifying her day to day tasks, giving her more time for her creative process.

Whether it’s space or physical health, time is our friend. As everything is automated with Xero, it requires much less time and is a huge help. It allows me to slow the creative process down, which allows for a better finished product.

X marks the spot

When she first started her business, Yvonne was using spreadsheets and PDFs. The accounting systems she tried just didn’t seem to hit the spot. But as a completely paperless business, Xero’s paperless accounting software was the perfect match.

Xero’s online accounting is like a hand to a glove. Having an automated system where I don’t have to think about money coming in, out, receipts. It’s all automatically tracked so it takes less time, which is extremely important.

Yvonne now has all her finances saved in one place, making it easy for her to assign expenses to the correct category and collaborate with her accountant. As far as accounting goes, it’s a pretty stylish system.

Good, bad but never ugly

Being self made, Yvonne has grown with her business, and seen the good, bad, but never ugly. Her priorities have shifted from doing everything independently, to now collaborating and asking for help.

No matter what business we’re in, we’re always engaging in relationships. At the end of the day, relationships are so much more important than any type of business we can do.

Whether that’s through the use of Xero’s software or the support of a neighboring artist, for Yvonne, collaborating makes business better. Her advice to anyone looking to start a business is to focus on humanity.
