Australian small-business revenue grew 1.4% year on year August as Victoria’s renewed lockdown weighed down the national figure. The growth, while modest, belies stronger figures of up to 8% recorded in other states. Victoria, the nation’s second biggest economy, saw small business revenue fall 3.8% year on year. Hospitality and arts and recreation led the losses, with turnover in those sectors falling by more than a third in August. The disparity between Victoria and other states extended to employment, which was little changed on a national level.
