ENGINEER  | JOINED XERO IN 2020

Xero has a good reputation for supporting your growth in a direction that interests you. I was interested in a product owner rotation in my grad year, my manager advocated for me and I threw myself into something completely new.

I was so nervous starting my first ever job, but one of the things I love about working is that for the first time in your life you have a good work life balance. Xero respects that and encourages it.

I’m so glad I applied for the Xero grad program – it exceeded my expectations. Xero has a really welcoming culture, is very open to feedback, and is really diverse. Creating a good culture is really hard and when you find a good culture it’s a gem. I’ve found a place with a good culture and I treasure it.

Zain joined Xero as a graduate engineer in 2020.

Monica Henriques

ENGINEER  |  JOINED XERO IN 2019

From the beginning we were really encouraged to have a structured personal development plan. It really allowed me to create some structure around what I wanted to do and try.

A lot of my role has been shaped by what I’m interested in and what I’m good at. And doing four rotations gave me a really good idea of the different areas I could move into and I got to find my perfect fit.

I really underestimated the advantage that the grad program gives you in getting to know so many people in different areas of the business and trying out a bunch of different team cultures.

Right from the start you learn a lot about yourself. It gives you a knowledge base and helps you prepare for growth so much faster. Thumbs up. Definitely do it.

Monica joined Xero as a graduate developer in 2019.

Jaymesh Master

MOBILE ENGINEER & TEAM LEAD   |   JOINED XERO IN 2017

When I first came into Xero I was very new to the industry and programming itself. My people lead worked with me to figure out what my calling was.

It's amazing to meet fresh grads straight out of university. I can’t wait to provide guidance to them in the same way my people lead did.

It was amazing to feel so welcomed at Xero, you never felt alone in the whole process. I gave every rotation my all and I really value that. That mindset meant I was able to pick the career that was right for me.

Jaymesh came to Xero through a Summer of Tech internship. He joined as a graduate developer in 2017. He is a Mobile engineer and a team lead.

PRODUCT DESIGNER   |   JOINED XERO IN 2018

In the induction week, everyone came together and we did heaps of activities and team building. It was really nice being part of that and having a connection into other parts of the business.

The grad year means you have a really supportive year where you can figure out what you want to do more or less of. It gives you a safe and supportive environment to mess up, learn from it, and grow. And you instantly have 20 other people in the same boat that you can ask technical questions of and really safely say that you don’t know what’s going on.

You have mentors and people who are willing to teach you and help you grow, all you need is the motivation and desire to learn. It’s a nice safe space to start out in, it’s a really nice vibe and a good culture.

Nicki joined Xero as a graduate product designer in 2018.
