Internship program | 2023 grad program
Internships are a great opportunity to do valuable paid work and see what life’s like at Xero.

Develop your skills over summer
With the Xero internship program, you’ll spend the summer learning new skills and experiencing what life is like in a bustling tech company.
You'll start with a close knit group of interns giving you instant connections around the business. We’ll hook you up with a buddy and you’ll work closely with your manager to plan your experience.
You'll be placed in a team that aligns to the area you have applied for. You will be involved in our daily work and have the opportunity to make real meaningful contributions.
We’ll help you develop your technical skills and your soft skills, whilst gaining valuable experience. By the end of the internship, you’ll hopefully have a good idea of where you want your career to go.
The Xero intern program is aimed at students in their penultimate year of study. For students in their final year, check out the roles we’ve got available in our graduate program.

When internships run
Our paid internships run over the summer for three months from November 2022 to mid-February 2023.Applications for 2023 roles have now closed.
What an internship looks like
These are paid internships where you’ll join a team and do real work alongside other Xero employees. Unlike technical roles in the grad program, internships don’t rotate. Instead, you’ll stay with one team for the duration of your internship.
Why do an internship with Xero
You’ll learn heaps and meet really awesome people. It could also be a great way to start your career at Xero. A lot of interns end up joining the Xero grad program once they’ve finished studying.

The application process
You’ll progress through the application process in these stages.
1. Submit CV and meet eligibility criteria
The first thing you need to do is meet the eligibility criteria. When you apply, your CV will only be used to verify your eligibility and won’t be used for screening purposes.
Our eligibility criteria for internships are:
- Availability for full-time work from November 2022 through to February 2023. (Applications for 2023 roles have now closed)
- Be in your the penultimate year of study in your chosen field
2. Complete a values assessment
Once you’ve met the eligibility criteria, you’ll be invited to complete a values assessment.
3. Complete behavioural and skills assessments
Then you’ll be asked to complete a behavioural assessment – which you can practice here – and, if you’re applying for the design or technical program, a technical skills assessment (30–90 mins).
For technical roles, you’ll need to complete a HackerRank test – which you can practice here. While it’s not all about the test results, this is a language-agnostic testing platform that helps us understand what level and range of skills you currently have.
For design roles, there’ll be a multiple-choice skills test to also help us understand your level of technical knowledge.
4. Record a short video interview for our team
Next, you’ll be invited to pre-record a video interview for our team.
If your video interview is successful, you’ll be invited to attend a grad day.
We’ll review all applications before making a decision so you can expect to hear from us in June 2022.
5. Attend the virtual grad day
The grad day is a half-day virtual event where you'll be assessed across three different activities: an interview, a technical assessment, and a group activity. You’ll also have an opportunity to learn more about Xero and the grad program, and meet some previous grads.

“The internship was cool because we had a whole week of workshops before we started doing anything. It was like being at uni but with more focused, hands-on collaborative learning in a small group.”
