Mental health and wellbeing support
Xero offers a range of free wellbeing education courses in Xero Central. In New Zealand the Xero Assistance Programme (XAP) provides free and confidential wellbeing support through Xero’s own provider, Benestar. In Australia our partnership with BeyondBlue means our employees, customers, and partners can access a range of content and the support they need.
In 2020, we partnered with Shift Collab, a leader in mental health education, to deliver a series of mental health workshops to our employees across the Americas. We later expanded this to include separate sessions for accounting and bookkeeping partners and their small business clients.
Small business wellbeing
The Next Level
In 2021, Xero commissioned a study from the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER). The study reveals the financial benefits of investing in wellbeing for small businesses. This research was used to produce The Next Level, which offers tips for small businesses to get started with wellbeing, as well as digital tools to become more productive and more profitable.
2019 Small Business Wellbeing Report
The 2019 Small Business Wellbeing Report was jointly commissioned by Xero and the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand. This report provides insight into the attitudes towards wellbeing amongst small business owners and the key stressors many small businesses face. The report also includes advice on how leaders can manage staff wellbeing and provide a positive work environment.
Xero Small Business Insights
We’re dedicated to improving the lives of small business owners everywhere. The Xero Small Business Insights (XSBI) program is a snapshot of the sector's health in each of our three biggest regions – Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The program releases a monthly index, as well as reports and multimedia about the small business economy.
The Small Business Index, part of Xero Small Business Insights, provides a regular, easy to understand reading on the overall state of small businesses in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. One key figure will show improvements or declines in the performance of small businesses relative to the previous month.
XSBI metrics are based on aggregated, anonymised data drawn from hundreds of thousands of Xero subscribers. These inform government decision makers and we believe they will help bring about changes such as reducing the amount of time it takes big companies to pay small businesses.
Protecting customer data
Xero is committed to the security of customer data. We protect customer data with multiple layers of security and extensive monitoring.
Xero complies with relevant industry standards. We are certified as compliant with ISO/IEC 27001: 2013 which is globally recognised as the premier information security management system (ISMS) standard. We also have available a Service Organization Control (SOC 2) report as a result of an independent auditor's examination into customer security controls.
Xero welcomed the implementation of GDPR in 2018 and has implemented a range of associated compliance measures. In addition, we’ve instituted multi-factor authentication (MFA) at login. Currently, MFA is mandatory for customers in Australia, and it will be mandatory for all customers globally by the end of 2021.
We provide timely advice to customers on security risks and provide information and education on how to reduce them. Moreover, our products include embedded security monitoring and audit tools that better enable small businesses to evaluate risks within their businesses. Xero publishes free guides, reports, books and playbooks which bring together a wealth of knowledge and ideas for running an accounting or bookkeeping business.
