Develop your skills over the summer
With the Xero internship program, you’ll spend the summer learning new skills and experiencing what life is like in a bustling tech company.
You'll start with a close knit group of interns giving you instant connections around the business. We’ll hook you up with a buddy and you’ll work closely with your manager to plan your experience.
You'll be placed in a team that aligns to the area you have applied for. You will be involved in our daily work and have the opportunity to make real meaningful contributions.
We’ll help you develop your technical skills and your soft skills, whilst gaining valuable experience. By the end of the internship, you’ll hopefully have a good idea of where you want your career to go.
The Xero intern program is aimed at students in their penultimate year of study. For students in their final year, check out the roles we’ve got available in our graduate program.
This year we’re recruiting interns to work in Auckland and Wellington in the following areas:
- security engineering
- IT support

Our internships are run through Summer of Tech, so find more information and apply through the Summer of Tech website.
We’ll be advertising our internship vacancies in the second half of the calendar year, so become a member of Summer of Tech and keep an eye out for when the roles go live.
When internships run
Our paid internships run over the summer for three months from November 2022 to mid-February 2023.
What an internship looks like
These are paid internships where you’ll join a team and do real work alongside other Xero employees. Unlike technical roles in the grad program, internships don’t rotate. Instead, you’ll stay with one team for the duration of your internship.
Why do an internship with Xero
You’ll learn heaps and meet really awesome people. It could also be a great way to start your career at Xero. A lot of interns end up joining the Xero grad program once they’ve finished studying.
To be eligible for the internship, you need to be in your penultimate year of study. This enables you to complete your internship with Xero and then, potentially, receive an offer to join the grad program for the following year.
Get the inside story at a grad event
Come along to one of our virtual or face-to-face events to meet some past grads and our grad team, and get a true understanding of life at Xero.
