Keynote: How to run a beautiful business in the age of machines
Tim Leberecht, author and consultant
Tim Leberecht, author of the widely acclaimed book The Business Romantic and advisor to organizations worldwide, argues that as machines take our jobs and do them more efficiently, soon, the only work left for us humans will be the kind of work that must be done beautifully rather than efficiently: with care, character, and craftsmanship. Tim believes we are indeed shifting from a smart age to a new romantic era in which companies rich with imagination and emotion will have an unfair advantage. In his talk, he inspires you to think about your business differently and proposes four concrete principles that enable you to thrive while maintaining your humanity in the age of machines.

Security rules: top tips you wish you'd know
Paul Macpherson, Head of Security, Xero
Think cyber crime is something that happens to other people, and that you’re too savvy to get caught? Think again. Nearly 50% of attacks are targeting small businesses directly and this number is growing. Knowing how to spot a scam is essential to not becoming a victim, and all staff in every business should receive some level of awareness training. Email is the primary channel used by hackers to scam you or deliver malicious software into your business, so everyone should know how to spot a malicious email. See how simple it can be to improve the protection of all the accounts you use for online services, by using strong, unique passwords, and enabling 2FA/MFA/2SA if available. And if you do become a victim? We’ll show you what to do and where to go for help.
Do you have an exit strategy?
Whatever stage you’re at in your business journey, you should always keep one eye on your end goal – and that goal should be your exit strategy. Our panel of experts will include a partner who’s just starting out, one who’s built their practice and has a few years of growth to go, and a partner who’s ready to sell now. You’ll hear when and how to start planning your exit. Understand what it is buyers are looking for and how to maximise the value of your asset to meet those needs. Answer the big questions such as whether to sell your firm or client base externally or to a junior partner, or whether to merge with another firm, and understand the risks and benefits of both options, and how to protect your clients and your staff.

Our mindsets need to adapt from those conditioned in our industrial age past, which encouraged us to do what we were told, to one which enables us to create and innovate.
