In the months ahead, you may notice that your Xero dashboard looks a little different. It’s all part of our work to upgrade the technology that underpins our platform, so it doesn’t slow us down over time. Just as you need to upgrade your phone every few years, we need to update Xero so we can continue to build the features that you need in your business or practice.
The functionality of your Xero dashboard won’t change, but there are some small tweaks to the design that may take some getting used to. The new version is designed to give you a consistent experience across Xero, while also improving speed and accessibility. Here’s an overview of the changes you can expect to see soon.

What’s changed?
- We’ll introduce a new ‘hide’ button instead of the old ‘x’ button on introduction and welcome banners, which will run across the top of the screen
- The ‘edit’, ‘save’ and ‘cancel’ buttons will be located in the top-right corner of your screen, instead of the bottom
- If you’re an accountant or bookkeeper, you will notice new names and descriptions for each widget when setting up a Xero account for the first time
- A new colour strip on the information panel below widgets will help you understand what step to take next (orange strip) or any errors (red strip) at a glance
- When editing your dashboard, you’ll be able to select or unselect a ‘show’ checkbox, instead of clicking the ‘hide’ button
- The drag icon will be at the bottom of the widget instead of the top, and there’ll be a yellow placeholder that will appear when you move widgets, so you can see the location more clearly

We’ve had a really positive response from customers who have tested the new dashboard as part of our design research panel. We will continue to listen to your feedback on the features you’d like to see in the future, so we can make it easy for you to keep an eye on your finances and stay on top of your cash flow.
Can you please add the revenue vs expenses chart, in the same format as Cash in vs Cash out.
While you are updating features could you please look at enabling credit notes to be picked up as part of a batch payment rather than having to be allocated to invoices and show as a separate item on payables lists.
We have a number of suppliers that offer us refunds on unused items over a period of 12 months. This means that original invoices are often paid and credit notes issued at the point of return of goods. This gets confusing at their end when we show on a remittance that we have underpaid an invoice due to it having an unrelated credit allocated to it.

Hi! I believe removing the search tool it’s really inefficient when trying to find a customer or supplier for any kind of check. The rest looks good!

Can you PLEASE put the Xero Files icon back on the top banner of the Dashboard? Near the Search and Notifications on the top right corner, where it was originally? So much feedback from users when this was removed, yet no action by Xero designers.

Unless you click further into the screen and tabs you are unaware that there are bills to be authorised

While you’re upgrading things, could you also please address a small, though not so small thing …
When adding a Spend transaction, it requires you to select the account the money has come from to make the purchase. However, if the incorrect account has been inadvertently selected the whole transaction must be deleted and re-done from scratch which can potentially waste a lot of time if someone has added many transactions without realising their error.
When we were using another competing product, if an error like this was discovered, there was a dropdown menu within the transaction that would allow you to re-select the correct account without all the other manual handling of having to re-add the transaction again.
It’d be great if this type of adjustment could be made equally as simply in Xero – it would be a small, though not insignificant game-changer.

OK I don’t mind the changes but where the heck has the search eyeglass gone? We use this all the time to search for references ect for us to do invoicing and other things. I really need this feature.

You’ve also removed the little search icon/function from the blue bar with the ‘help’ section. Just had a very upset client on the phone as they use it all the time. There is no mention of this being removed in the changes detailed. Is this an oversight and has been removed in error? Any chance it could be added back in?
