It’s time to #RaiseACup Aotearoa to our phenomenal bookkeeping community!
Global Bookkeeping Week is a very special week for the team at Xero. As hundreds of bookkeepers from around the world come together to celebrate universally, this week gives us an opportunity to recognise the far too often unsung heroes behind New Zealand’s small businesses.
As I reflect on the past 12 months since our last Global Bookkeeping Week, I find myself in awe of the way our much-loved bookies have acted as a first line of support for their clients, both financially and emotionally.
At the cold face of this pandemic, our bookkeepers have kept hundreds of businesses going by applying for government subsidies, carefully planning cash flow forecasts, and communicating with suppliers and tax authorities to arrange payment plans.
And yet through the challenging times, we have also seen incredible amounts of unity and compassion as our bookies not only rallied around their clients, but also rallied around each other.
United to support each other
Our Xero NZ bookkeepers Facebook group has had numerous threads discussing the rules around subsidies, resurgence payments and deadlines. Often these threads are after hours with bookkeepers still trying to nut out the latest fast paced rules and regulations. We have been so happy and grateful to see our bookkeeping community unite together to support each other with information, brainstorming and relevant resources.
I have also spoken with many bookkeepers who are simply a voice of reason and friendship over the phone, zoom or email, supporting their clients in any way they can all while running their own business and supporting their families in challenging times.

We celebrate Global Bookkeeping Week each year with fun photos, education and community, and this year is just as special.
