I recently gave a presentation called “Supercharging Your Workflow Automation” at AICPA Engage and wanted to give you the main points in case you missed it. Here are several ways to free up your time and your business.
Automating your backend practice workflow gives your leads and clients a smoother, happier onboarding experience, and eliminates the risk of things falling through the cracks. The reward is not just saving time, it’s also getting flexibility over the time you do spend.
Start by documenting your current processes. Really specify what you’re doing. Consider building a visual workflow with a tool like Lucidchart or Vizio so you can see exactly what steps are happening and who’s doing what. You need to update your processes before you even consider updating your tools.
I also recommend looking at your timeline – how long does each step take and what does that mean to the minimum time it takes to close a deal and get a client up and running?
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, every firm is different. So focus on where can you get the most bang for your buck.
Make sure to find out key information on every software tool you consider. Ask yourself what’s the price? Can it help me prevent errors? Or save time? Does it have some bonus sexy feature I can’t get anywhere else? It doesn’t hurt to continuously reassessing your app stack to make sure you’ve got the best solution for your firm. And another thing, test everything thoroughly before you implement it live with clients.
Ultimately, your time is precious and you have a lot on your plate, but adding automation to your internal workflow can allow you to concentrate on tasks that create high value.
