Single Touch Payroll for AU Payroll

From 1st July next year, if you have 20 employees or more, say goodbye to end of year ATO reporting for payroll, just report as you pay!

STP is changing the way employers report to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) by providing a platform to report information like salary and wages, pay-as-you-go PAYG withholding and superannuation information when you pay your employees.

We at Xero will be Single Touch Payroll compliant and provide a simple, easy way to meet your tax requirements each pay cycle.

To get ready for the change, here’s what you need to do:

1. On 1st April 2018

Confirm your headcount to know whether you will be required to submit your pay information to the ATO from the 1st July 2018.

If you have 20 or more employees, you’ll need to sign up to a software provider such as Xero Payroll to keep you STP compliant.

2. From 1st July 2018

Single Touch Payroll kicks in and will be mandatory for all employers that have 20 or more employees.

3. From 1st July 2019

Single Touch Payroll will be mandatory for all employers.

We’ll continue to send updates on STP leading up to next July.

Hi ,

I am from the product team at Xero. On 1 April 2018 , all you have to do is count the number of employees on your payroll based on the rules defined by the ATO. There will be no update to the product on 1 April 2018 specific to STP.

We will continue to send our more details on STP over the coming days and weeks.

Thanks

Is Xero getting an exemption from ATO in case it is not ready for the launch by July 1 , 2018?
We have less than 20 employees but we are a subsidiary to a larger group who use Micropay for Payroll and they are Single Touch Payroll ready.

Is there an update on this? Not long until we need to start using it. Or do we need to start looking at another program to run our payroll ?

This is getting scary now! We have had no updates at all. I need to decide in the next 2 weeks if we are going to continue to use Xero. Will Xero be able to the Single Touch Payroll?
