I’m very excited to this year welcome a new addition to our Xero Ambassador team, Ryan Watson. Ryan joins us as a representative for the US Midwest, and as Co-Founder and Principal of cloud-based firm, Upsourced Accounting. He brings a wealth of on-the-ground experience to the team.

Ryan is a seasoned entrepreneur with deep experience in the fields of finance and accounting. He also happens to be a fellow Ohioan! He lives in Cincinnati with his wife, Lauren, and their dog, Harvey. Beginning his career as a CPA at Deloitte, Ryan went on to establish his firm in 2012. Today, Upsourced Accounting, which specializes in SaaS-based start-ups and digital agencies, services more than 100 clients and is a Xero Gold Partner.

The road to being an ambassador

Ryan’s passion for technology in accounting is evident. Incubated out of his firm, he and his partners created Sqrl, which is a tool to automate document collection for accounting firms. Used by large and small firms alike, it’s earned Ryan a number of accolades, including Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year EDGE Award.

When asked why he chose the role as ambassador, Ryan says he wants to share his enthusiasm for Xero with his fellow accountants.

“My firm has been on the Xero platform since it first became available in the US,” he explains. “What started as convenience became a passion for Xero and the culture of building a practice around the platform. I love the platform, and I want to be an evangelist for it.”

Ryan also talks about what he thinks the future holds for the accounting profession.

“I’m passionate about what the future of the industry looks like. Especially with AI and machine learning moving increasingly to the forefront of accounting technology,” Ryan says.

“I want to be a participant and a leader in this exciting time for accountants and the profession, and I think Xero and the ecosystem surrounding it is a huge piece of what the firm of the future will look like.”

Welcome, Ryan! We look forward to watching you champion cloud accountanting across the US.
