The countdown for Xerocon South is on, and the buzz is building. Over two full days (8-9 September), Brisbane will play host to more than 90 exhibitors, 30 industry speakers and more than 2000 accountants and bookkeepers across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
With a whip-smart lineup that includes Antarctic Expedition Leader, Rachel Robertson; global thought leader and author, Rachel Botsman; and leading minds from across the Xero team, attendees will have their pick of keynote speeches that put the spotlight on economy, politics, artificial intelligence, cloud integration and more.
After attending the annual conference for the last two years, Jamie Davison, the co-founder of progressive specialists Carbon Business Group, has decided to fly 12 team members to attend the event — 11 from their headquarters in Perth and one from their newly opened office in Melbourne.
Known for the energy and ambition they inject into the accounting and financial sector, Carbon offers speciality services in bookkeeping, business services, cloud integration, insurance and finance. From its barista-trained receptionist to a commitment to technology in business, they’ve never been afraid to go the extra mile to make a difference.
We asked Jamie why Xerocon is such an important event in their company calendar:
12 return flights across Australia is a good effort. What makes Xerocon South worth your investment?
“For us, it’s all about being surrounded by energised, like-minded people. We’re largely based in WA but Xerocon has become a springboard for us to make global connections, bounce around new ideas and plant the seed for new opportunities. Over the last two years, we’ve met people we’re still in contact with now — and when you’re always on the lookout for new acquisitions, customers and experts to grow your business, that’s an incredible thing.”
What are you most looking forward to at Xerocon South?
“It’s a great time to see all the service add-ons in one room and get a new understanding for the potential within the platform we use everyday. You won’t have time to talk to every different service that connects with Xero, but you’ll certainly dip your toes in the water.
“It’s all there to help us reinforce ourselves as a leading authority among our clients. We have a dedicated cloud-integration team and we are committed to staying on the pulse of what’s happening, and why. As time goes on, people are referring to it as ‘the cloud’ much less. It’s fast become the way that things get done.”
When did you first start using Xero, and why haven’t you stopped?
“We got involved with Xero years ago. Within 24 hours I exited the franchise I worked with, joined Xero, and 12 months later we were Gold Partners. Last year we won the Xero Bookkeeping Partner of the Year Award. From the word go, the interface made it really simple to use. It made accounting a bit more sexy, and it’s shaped and moulded how Carbon has grown.”
