This month, PCWorld put five accounting software products to the test to answer one big question. “Which cloud accounting software and mobile app should you buy?”

One software solution came out on top. Xero.

Forcing the marketplace to lift its game

The Accounting Software 2016 Group Test began by introducing QuickBooks, Reckon and MYOB as the more “established marques” — warning that “relative newcomers like Xero” “have upped the ante, forcing the old-timers to lift their game and make their applications easier to use, more reliable and up to date.”

To put this theory through its paces, the technology retailer selected five accounting software services to participate in a head-to-head comparison: MYOB Essentials, QuickBooks, Saasu, Reckon One and Xero.

Among other considerations, the solutions were analyzed for their ease-of-use, ability to integrate with other systems, reporting, bank feeds, add-on features, value-for-money and the presence of a strong mobile app to support the desktop function.

‘Xero is tough to beat’

When Xero went under the spotlight, PCWorld wanted to know whether the service that revolutionized the market on its launch would continue to lead and disrupt the pack a decade on.

It does. The write-up commended the usability of our dashboard, our connectivity to other SaaS providers, our free data migration from MYOB and Reckon, and our add-ins for vertical industries such as education, hospitality, manufacturing and not-for-profits.

The report proceeded to award Xero its highest rating and concluded that — thanks to standout features, such as our user interface, easy-to-use mobile app, and range of third-party integrations — “it’s tough to beat Xero”.

Meeting industry recognition with customer satisfaction

Such recognition from within the technology industry plays an important role in confirming and compounding the positive feedback that we’re receiving from our customers — who now number more than 700,000 across over 180 countries.

In a Canstar Blue survey of small-business owners and decision-makers last year, Xero was awarded the highest customer-satisfaction ranking for accounting software (again beating MYOB and QuickBooks to take the top spot).
