Today Rod Drury joined David Barrett, founder and CEO of Expensify, for a fireside chat at Expensicon in Hawaii. Rod talked about the future of the accounting industry, how to build a better economy, and the power of a great business platform. He also announced Xero’s global strategic partnership with Expensify.

“After consumer and enterprise, small and medium business is the next big category,” said Rod. He went on to emphasize that if we want better schools and hospitals, and to feed the global economy, we need small businesses to be driving more business. A key way to make that happen is to give these small businesses the help they need, both with Xero and great advisors.
“It’s so important that the accounting industry moves from just compliance work to value-based pricing,” said Rod. When accountants can become strategic advisors for small businesses, everyone wins.
Rod also spoke about the work Xero is doing to become a true platform for small businesses. “In the small business computing space, we are rewiring the software company, and that’s super exciting. As a small business, you need to invest in platforms that will take you to far greater revenue opportunities.” Xero and Expensify do just that. “With us you’re picking two best of breed products that work together.”
David chimed in as well. “I had a customer tell me that because of us he can now spend four more hours with his kids, how do you put a price tag on that?”
