Xero took out tough competition from other finalists in the category, including ARANZ Geo, Serko and Shotover Systems. On Xero’s win, the judges commented: “It takes continuity of performance over more than a single year to earn this award.”

“The company evidences superb operational efficiency, planning a new version of its software each week, with 400 releases in 2014. Development of new features follows a tried and true winning behaviour: give your customers what they request.

“Lastly, the open API’s for go-to-market through the accountancy channel is brilliant,” says Wayne Norrie, Chair of the Hi-Tech Trust.

The judges reported a record number of entries, with over 150 organisations entering in 2015.

About the Hi-Tech Awards

The Hi-Tech Awards are judged by more than 50 local and international judges who assessed entrants across the 12 award categories. The international judges include the likes of Steve Wozniak, Co-founder of Apple, and Craig Nevill-Manning, Director of Engineering at Google (New York).

Just to think our application passed the desk of these high calibre people is amazing. And winning this award was particularly exciting right after we were announced Forbes#1 Most Innovative Growth Company for the second year in a row!

Xero New Zealand Sales Director Ben Richmond was also a finalist in the Young Achiever of the Year category.

ICT growth in New Zealand

There was a lot of positive buzz as New Zealand’s tech sector is in great shape for the future with the rise of young and emerging companies showing their talents.

The launch of the Government’s ICT sector plan earlier in the day showed the huge growth in ICT in New Zealand – and how much opportunity there is to take this even further. The calibre of industry representatives and companies up for awards on Friday night certainly shows we are getting some fantastic depth and great companies coming through.

On behalf of Xero, I would like to say a massive thanks to our people, partners and customers – without you this would not be possible. And finally, congratulations to all the finalists and winners.
