Increase Productivity with Xero and Microsoft Integration

Modern business is all about collaboration: with your colleagues and with your customers.

That’s why we are excited to be adding to our support for world-leading online productivity platforms. Today, Microsoft made some major announcements at their developer conference in Barcelona about new features in Microsoft Office 365.

The big one for us is web API’s that allow us to connect Xero with Office 365 mail, contacts, calendar and files.

We’ve been impressed by these new features that will allow us to integrate Office and Xero closely. To make this happen we’ve been working with Microsoft in Redmond and were thrilled to be one of the demo companies at the launch in Barcelona.

Over the next few months, a new feature will be rolling out to those of you with Office 365 accounts which will enable you to sign straight into Xero directly from your online Office suite using the new Office App Launcher. This will just be the start of some fantastic integration with Microsoft’s online universe.

Xero and Microsoft integration

For our Practice Studio products in particular this integration will enable some great features. We know many of our partners live between Office and their Practice tools and this seamless integration will now allow for increased productivity. Being able to link emails and documents to your client in Practice Studio, across your desktop, web and mobile apps is one of the first things we’re working on, but there are so many further opportunities to collaborate over financial data and documents with our partners and their clients. We can’t wait to build them.

@David: nothing specific for MS CRM is planned yet. This work is currently about sharing identity, which in itself will enable us to build future cool things. At the moment, those future cool things are focused on Office 365.

Love the idea. I too would love to see where this takes Xero and what integration is in the pipeline.

Absolutely awesome work guys, great news! Storage to Onedrive would be great too, as well as practice manager integration to Onedrive. Then all our files truly will be on the cloud. MS recently announced unlimited storage in Onedrive for Office 365 customers, so this use of this storage through Xero and Practice Manager would be amazing.

Now time to work on that Windows Phone app please! 🙂

Really great idea. Having Xero and Office 365 working together and being able to share data will offer a greater accounting/office solution for businesses. Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Hi all – time for an update!

There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make this integration possible for our Practice Studio applications. We’re busy connecting our products (Workpapers will be first) to Xero’s shared login system – something we have to do before we can connect to Office 365’s. We’re still discussing with Microsoft what might be possible beyond that.

This is all being worked on by several teams here at Xero – no release dates yet though I’m afraid.

We also have some awesome add-on partners who already offer great – and deep – integration of Xero and Microsoft’s platform.

Hi,

I’m looking to purchase Xero but tempted to wait until it integrates fully with Office 365. Do you have a completion date yet?

Thanks

Toni

Will Xero Practice Manager be able to use the One Drive Document Management system rather than having to use Suite/ Sharepoint.
As this is a major DMS I am surprised it is not available yet.

Any news on this? Or an explanation why it was ‘several months’ away back in Oct 2014 but no news since.

Does it work with office 2016 which is the paid version of office 365. And will it work on our own exchange server. Cloud is all nice and all but for private infomation I will never trust it.
