Xerocon 2014: that’s a wrap on the largest tech event of its kind in Australasia

After months of planning, preparation and brainstorming, the curtains have been drawn on Xerocon 2014. And what an event it was. From the number of attendees and the scope of ideas and content to the sheer size of the venue, everything about Xerocon was big. We were thrilled to welcome 1,300 delegates (a record for us) to two days packed with sessions spanning consumer psychology, branding and culture, digital disruption and more.

As for exhibitors, delegates were spoilt for choice with over 80 add-on partners to choose from. Of course, an event of this magnitude (the biggest tech event for the accounting industry) deserves a number of plaudits for being so successful – and so a big thanks must go out to all the delegates, add-on partners, event organisers and speakers for making this Xerocon our best event yet.

Making new connections is also a big part of what makes Xerocon tick, and we went out of our way to make it even easier for delegates to do just that. This year, delegates’ details were encoded on their Xerocon entry passes, so they could automatically exchange contacts at the special stations around the conference floor. Again, the numbers for this were impressive: all up, delegates made 7,767 new connections.

For the Xero team, the event provided a great opportunity to catch up with bookkeepers, accountants and developers and gain firsthand feedback on how we can work more effectively with our partners. Much as we wanted to keep the buzz alive, Xerocon did have to draw to a close. True to style, we brought the event to an end in a big way with a gala dinner and awards night. We’re delighted to announce the award winners:

  • Add-on Partner of the Year (Cross Industry) – Receipt Bank
  • Accounting Partner of the Year – Mulcahy & Co
  • 100% Cloud Award – 5Ways
  • Add-on Partner of the Year (Industry Specific) – Sharesight
  • Bookkeeping Partner of the Year – CFM Bookkeeping
  • Emerging Add-on Partner of the Year – Float
  • Financial Advisor of the Year – Wealth Enhancers
  • Marketing Innovation Award – Twomeys
  • National Partner of the Year – Crowe Horwath
The talented Xero band

With the evening’s formalities out of the way, it was time for the Xero band (made up of Xeroes and partners) to take to the stage. They cranked up a range of crowd-favourite tunes that saw the dance-floor swamped with activity. It was a blast to see so many people letting their hair down after two busy days of absorbing content, networking and connecting.
