US Payroll – what we’re working on

US Payroll team at Xero

The launch of US Payroll in December was a huge milestone for Xero, but the launch was just the first of many steps to deliver the ultimate payroll feature – it’s a marathon, not a sprint. There are always bumps in the road, but our team is focused on developing the most important features and delivering the best possible customer experience.

Our vision of supporting 50 states with electronic tax filings and payments is a long term goal. A mansion can’t be constructed without a solid foundation and building US payroll is no different. We need to have a solid base before we start putting up the walls and installing the fixtures.

To begin with, our team is focused on making sure that the initial seven states we have launched are operating perfectly and our customers are satisfied beyond belief. There is a ton of excitement for us to add more states but first we need to make sure the foundations can support the complicated requirements of US payroll.

In being completely transparent, here are the top five features the US Payroll product development teams are focused on releasing:

  • Electronic Taxes & Filings for Federal and California followed by other supported states

  • Enhancing the opening balances experience

  • Improving unscheduled payruns & corrections

  • An improved direct deposit experience

  • Localized US Payroll reports

We believe delivering on these areas first is key to ensuring the best possible customer experience. Every major project has it challenges but we remain focused on building a payroll product that you will love. One step at a time, we’re working hard to deliver the necessary payroll features that not only makes the lives of small business owners easier but changes them as well.

Go Payroll team! — lots of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the product. And lots more in the pipeline to be excited about! I’m glad to work with a great team, that keeps pushing forward!
