New Xero Touch on Android for 2014

Xero Touch for Android

It’s here! The all-new version of Xero Touch for Android is available today for download from Google Play. We have completely rebuilt the application – it’s fast, slick, and awesome and we can’t wait for you to try it out.

This release of the new Xero Touch for Android concludes the first phase of our change in strategy from earlier last year – we’ve now finished rebuilding our apps using native technology and with the release of our new Android app we are busy working on the next set of new features.

The native rebuild was a big undertaking but an important step to make sure we laid good foundations for dedicated iOS and Android apps for now and into the future. We are already finding that our ability to extend the features of these new apps is vastly accelerated.

The new Android app incorporates the great new bank reconciliation feature that’s been on iOS since October last year. Its design is more closely aligned with the Android interface guidelines so Android users should feel right at home inside the app.

You can download the new app from the Google Play store right now. Let us know what you think.

What’s next for mobile?

Full files support is coming soon for iOS, along with rebooted expense claim screens which’ll allow you to either make a claim or, if you have the right privileges, you’ll be able to add a purchase directly against a business bank account as a spend money transaction. Android is a few cycles behind right now but closing in. And there’s plenty more to come. 2014 is going to be a big year for mobile at Xero.

Great job on the rebuild! Massive improvements across the board. Looking forward to seeing the Android app develop further in 2014.

Updates are coming thick & fast!

I’ve seen some people on social media hesitant about moving to Xero while this was not available – so another evolved feature to win new Xero clients over.

Is this a proper Java app or just a wrapper for a mobile-website?

Hi @Nathan – it’s been developed in Java using the Android SDK.

I was just complaining about the Android App to myself and then XERO delivers yet again. This is great. Just one question, I cannot see how to get to the mobile pages from xero.com. Can you please add the link, so we can show our clients? Thanks

Hi I was wondering if Xero touch both on Iphone and Android can add ‘Submit for approval’ button in Receipt Claim function? so we can instantly monitor client’s expense receipt? Thanks!

I keep searching the Play Store on my android phone but cannot find Xero anywhere. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Hi @Vincent – we’re looking at this for a later release. Agree that it makes sense to be able to submit a claim for approval.

Hi @Sandra – if the app isn’t appearing for you when you visit this link on your phone – it may be that the app is not compatible with your device. If you contact our customer support team with the model of phone you have, we should be able to confirm this for you.

Any update on when we will be able to upload a receipt as a purchase rather than an expense? I really need this option fast. Was trying to utilize receipt bank or shoeboxed, but not satisfied and I see this being such an easy integration with xero. With those other services, by time it hits xero, those transactions have already downloaded from my bank and now I have duplicates that I am not able to match together.

Hi @Daryl, we looked into this on Friday and have discovered a bug that magnifies the lag when doing a contact search. This should be resolved this morning and new version out for Android this afternoon. Thanks for letting us know!

Hi @Ian, sorry for the lateness of this reply! The location info permission was added as part of the Google Maps integration in contacts. We actually don’t use it for anything, it was just part of Google’s advised best practice. We’ll look at removing it in a future release.

Hi. I can’t seem to add a new contact with full details for invoicing purposes on the Android version.

Dawn

Hi @Dawn, that’s right – at the moment when you enter a new contact for an invoice it is saved as blank. To fill out the contact’s details you’ll need to log in to the web site. This functionality is on our roadmap though, feel free to vote for it in Community: https://community.xero.com/business/discussion/3253941/

Any chance of a file attachment to invoice being added in the near future? This would help greatly when drafting invoices as qquotes and sending completed invoices with photos of jobs etc.

Otherwise, nice work.

Would be great if the attach file to invoice feature was available on android version of the app. It is a big part of our business in digital proofing. Any chance of this being added?

Hi … I would love the app to show invoices receivable (sales) as well as payable (purchases). I find it strange to have an accounting app that only shows the sales side of the ledger … Need both to get the full picture .

Hi @Carey, Files support for invoices on Android was added back on the 22nd of October, sorry I didn’t see your comment or I’d have let you know sooner!

@Ed, thanks for the feedback. We’ve been thinking about what we could do around bills in Touch for quite a while, both showing them (as you’re requesting) and setting up new bills. We aren’t working on it just yet but it is something we will get to eventually. If you vote for and follow this community thread, we’ll keep you posted about it there:
