Help team wins at WriteMark Plain English Awards

2013 Winner Plain English Awards Sentence Transformation

This year I was proud to win the Best Plain English Sentence Transformation award and get an Award of Distinction for the same category at the WriteMark Plain English Awards.

My colleague Ros Black received two Awards of Distinction – one for Best Plain English Sentence Transformation and another for Best Plain English Technical Communicator.

The WriteMark Plain English Awards are an annual event that recognise excellence in clear and transparent communication. It’s always a great night hearing inspirational people speak about the importance of  plain English, and mixing with others who are as passionate about plain English as  we are.

Gregory Fortuin, WriteMark Plain English Awards Trust Chair, said “Xero was warmly acknowledged as a champion of clear, transparent communication. We all know that plain English is imperative for success in business and for the public good.”

The overriding theme of this year’s awards was simplicity: taking large amounts of information and complexity and making it simple. Xero’s Help Centre is all about simplicity. We take complex information, analyse it, then break it down to produce simple and easy-to-read content.

It was great to have that work acknowledged this year at the WriteMark Plain English Awards.

Released in 1998, You’ve Got Mail was one of the first films in my generation to center around technology. But, what happens to ...
