Online activity statements with Practice Manager

After a successful pre-release program we’re pleased to announce the availability of online activity statements to our partners in Australia.

As announced at Xerocon in Sydney, with Practice Manager you can now file your clients activity statements directly with the ATO online. This is an important step to make our online tax product a reality and is building on the success of our online TFN declaration release. So far we have filed over 12,000 online declarations, saving many hours of processing time and many many trees.

Online activity statements made easy

You can prepare and file activity statements for all your clients, including those that aren’t using Xero yet by following the steps below.

  1. If your clients are on Xero, publish their Activity Statement for the required period.

  2. Within Practice Manager start by clicking the BAS/IAS button in the clients job. This connects to the ATO and retrieves any outstanding client obligations.

  3. Simply select the obligation from the list and the correct form type will be created including all available information from the ATO.

  4. Either import the figures from Xero or if your client isn’t on Xero yet, simply complete the form yourself.

  5. Depending on your process you can transition the activity statement to be approved, out to sign with the client or signed off.

  6. Once the statement is signed off, select the statements you want to file and send them off to the ATO electronically.

  7. When the ATO acknowledge they’ve received them, the status will be updated automatically for you to filed.

Fantastic addition to the suite. I especially like that you can see what lodgements are outstanding. Will there be a report that aggregates ALL client lodgements outstanding?
That will be a game changer to avoid the ones that slip through the cracks.

So we lodged one in lieu of using GovReports. Pretty much winged it as we didn’t really understand the step through. Bit disappointed as there doesn’t appear to be any receipt of lodgement. We used to send this to our clients to confirm with them that we had lodged – time stamped. The only reference we can see that it has gone through is under history Staff ATO Service Details Filed. Not really what we wanted.

@Alastair this is definitely one for the future and we’ll do it when the capability is made available for us technically.

@Jennie thanks for the feedback. We are currently looking at what type of receipt is made available upon successful filing and feedback is the best way we know what is important to you, our partners. Thanks.

BAS Item 7A Deferred GST is not being brought into the BAS. How come? When you print the BAS from the Tax Agent Portal it’s there but it’s not prefilling into Workflow Max and can’t even be manually added. Did you guys overlook it?

@Peter, good spot. We haven’t included this yet and based on feedback and demand will could look to include it in future update. Do you have many clients that need it?

We’re also tracking feedback around this on the Activity Statement in Xero, so you could also head on over to the community and add your vote.
