Accounting for schools

We thought we’d give you a bit of an update about schools and Xero. A growing number of schools are choosing Xero as their accounting system. The feedback we had early on was that it would be great to have a one-step solution for schools. What does that mean? Part of it is integrating an accounting system with a student management system, to save on time and data entry. This is why we’ve partnered with Schola.

Another thread is ensuring we get the accounting requirements for schools right. We don’t want to see Charts of Accounts with 600+ items, but instead implement an easy to use Chart and ensure our Tracking features allow the right reports to be easily obtained.

We’ve had a number of discussions with people about their requirements and what they’d like to see in a school accounting solution. And as we move into design and development, we thought it would be useful to create a LinkedIn Group to engage with those that are interested in school accounting.

Feel free to join our  Accounting for Schools group and let us know directly what you’d like to see in Xero for Schools.

Having just looked through the school financials as Board of Trustees we welcome the opportunity to look at an alternative – Xero for Schools – so will look forward to entries as they come! Yay and thank you.

I have a couple of schools that I have converted to Xero and they love it. A number of others are sitting on the fence until we hear about the reporting packs as at the moment Xero reporting does not meet thier needs for management reports, as they are not keen downloading to Excel.
What is an update on how this parntership is going?
As this is an extra level that would really have the schools interested!

Hi Lisa. As regards your comments above, check out our latest video for some detailed information about report packs –

In the next couple of releases, you’ll be able to decide what reports you’d like to include in your report pack and also change the layout of core reports such as your P & L. Report customisation will allow you to group accounts together, edit text, and even change headings or names of subtotals on your report – making it simple to adjust for most of your school requirements.

The integration of a Student Management System, (Assembly) with Xero, is already underway and expected to be completed later this year.

As you mentioned we have many schools already successfully using Xero and look forward to the future as more schools take advantage of the features Xero offers to save them processing time.

‘partnered with Schola’ I googled Schola and found nothing. Do you mean Scholar Analytics?

I am hoping Jackrabbit Dance and Music School software will partner with Xero instead of quickbooks. Cant wait!

Why attracting female accounting talent is not one-size-fits-all

When it comes to hiring strong female accounting talent, there is no cookie-cutter approach. While many accounting firms correctly recognize the need for female talent in their practice, too many treat related recruiting and retention activities as one-size fits all. I spoke with one of my peers Joanne Cleaver, she had some great insights and ...
