Cuddle class

One of our favorite companies is Air New Zealand who are redefining the flying experience and recently won airline of the year. Their latest innovation is Cuddle Class, and it’s making waves around the world.

Today we did a planning meeting across from Hanger 9 and got to walk across the road see the new innovations and design journey. Very relevant to what we’re doing. The new premium economy seats are probably the most innovative of the new features. It was great seeing the crazy ideas they tried – including bunks.

Some simple things Air New Zealand has already done – like movies from sit down to wheels on the ground – makes the total travel experience so much better. I’ve been flying Qantas a bit recently in Australia and it is so far behind in user experience. Old fleet, CRT screens hanging from the roof with crappy content rather than a screen in front and choice.  There is daylight between the offerings.

I got to try the new seats. The new business class lie flat seats have a lot more padding. Cuddle class is cool but the social scenarios around that will be funny to watch. If you are flying with a mate up to Hong Kong for the Rugby Sevens you’re going to have a very awkward discussion. What if you’re traveling with your PA? Eeeeek. (I don’t have one thank goodness).

Andy was there too: Hanger 9. Brilliant!

While we’re talking about Air New Zealand – CEO Rob Fyfe is one of my heros and his leadership over the last few years has been remarkable.  But Rob, most CEO’s do not look like you.

Keep your bloody shirt on.

Dude

How do you emulate the Rob Fyfe look?

How about a little less of that Hawkes Bay good living ….
