Green accountant, blue client

Phew, what a fun few days.  The first part of our roadshow finished this morning with a great audience in Greenlane.  Next up is Dunedin on the 8th.  We’ll get through the other centers early in February. Stay tuned for details.

Here’s Mike at the Xero offices in Auckland last night …

And me mid flight in Greenlane this morning.

We’ve enjoyed being able to get out there and show our accounting partners some of the the new stuff we’re working on. Our partnership with Acclipse is very exciting.  I think many people were surprised to the extent of the Acclipse/Xero partnership. Xero provides the practice ledger under Acclipse and we are collaborating on design ideas so that Xero and Acclipse Practice Management work seamlessly together with a similar interface.

Here is a screenshot of Acclipse (rear), with Xero as the Practice Ledger.

One of the emerging UI standards we are evolving with Acclipse is:  when you are working on the Accountants side (managing jobs, staff resourcing, work in progress etc) you are in green. When you’re working on your Clients data, you are blue. Not sure if will catch on as much as “debits by the window”, but we’ll see.

Debits by the window…thats such an accountants joke. I actually used to have the word ‘debit’ and ‘credit’ written on the draws inside my desk. Did a similar thing when I learnt port and starboard for sailing. What ever floats your boat I suppose. Whats cool with Xero, is most people who use Xero don’t need to know. Hope everyone is enjoying the roadshow. Xero certainly has come a long way since we did the last big one in August 2006. The Acclipse stuff is just stunning, great work Mike.
All the best from cold London.

Hi, went to the Auckland roadshow. Very impressed as were those around me. One thing I forgot to ask was “is there any sort of practise management system within Xero for someone like me, a one-man-band who is aiming to have 100+ Xero based clients – also one-man-band type self employed people.”

Hi Mark, I believe Acclipse are going to do a fully hosted version especially for small practices. I’d give Mike a shout.

In the mean time you may be able to get by with just Xero for your Practice Ledger and perhaps WorkFlowMax or one of our other partners for job tracking.

Give us a call if you want to discuss.

Why Attracting Female Accounting Talent is not One-Size-Fits-All

When it comes to hiring strong female accounting talent, there is no cookie-cutter approach. While many accounting firms correctly recognize the need for female talent in their practice, too many treat related recruiting and retention activities as one-size fits all. I spoke with one of my peers Joanne Cleaver, she had some great insights and ...
