Only “successful” transactions will be counted towards your tier transaction limit. The transaction will be counted on the date it is successfully approved in the NAB mobile app.
In order for a transaction to be “successful” it would include submitting the payment instruction from Xero to NAB and approving the payment within the NAB mobile app. Only then will it be counted towards your monthly transaction allocation.

Xero NAB Payments is a bill payment solution that enables small businesses in Australia to easily pay and manage bills through Xero. The integration with NAB, Australia’s largest business bank, provides a seamless process to pay multiple bills by sending payment instructions directly from Xero to your linked NAB transaction account. It’s a fast, simple and secure way to pay bills.
How does Xero NAB Payments differ from batch payment files?
Whilst you can pay bills in Xero using batch payment files, the process can be manual, disjointed, error prone and time consuming. You’re required to download a batch payment file from Xero, upload it separately to your bank and check the status of the payments in your bank.
Xero NAB Payments streamlines this process by enabling you to pay and manage bills in a more automated way. Once you've submitted the payment instructions directly and securely from Xero to a linked NAB transaction account, you just need to log into the NAB mobile app to approve the payments.
Why do I have to pay extra for Xero NAB Payments, and it’s not part of my subscription?
Xero NAB Payments allows you to instruct multiple bill payments, through a seamless and secure process that will save you time. However, as there are costs associated with the delivery of this feature, it would not be viable for Xero to include Xero NAB Payments in the price of an existing subscription.
You will still be able to make ABA batch payments through NAB accounts with no charge from Xero.
Yes, there will be a monthly charge. You will be able to choose between three tiers of payments to suit the number of bills you pay each month. This can be purchased as an add-on from within the Xero Bills section (prices include GST).
$3 for 10 payment transactions (35c per transaction thereafter)
$10 for 40 payment transactions (25c per transaction thereafter)
$20 for 100 payment transactions (20c per transaction thereafter)
You will be invoiced for this monthly charge in your Xero invoice - NAB will not charge separately for payments made using Xero NAB Payments.
You can change (upgrade or downgrade) your payment tier once a month, which will then take effect the following monthly billing cycle.
First month free: You can try Xero NAB Payments free for the first month.
Can I approve payments in NAB internet banking instead of the NAB mobile app?
Yes, although the NAB mobile app provides a better user experience and allows you to approve multiple payments at once. You’ll need to approve payments individually if you choose to use NAB Internet Banking on your web browser.

My accountant or bookkeeper processes my bills and sends my ABA files, can they use Xero NAB Payments on my behalf?
Yes, as the bank account owner you can arrange to give your accountant or bookkeeper access to your NAB transaction account and get them set up as a creator or approver on the account. This will allow them to send payment instructions from Xero, and approve payments in the NAB mobile app, depending on what level of access you’d like to give them.
We recommend discussing this with your bookkeeper or accountant, and if you’re interested in getting them set up, visit your NAB bank branch or contact your NAB banker.
