Xero – trustworthy and foolproof

Saving time was the motivating factor for Debbie Oetgen to switch her investment properties to Xero. Since moving to Xero, Debbie guesses she spends just a quarter of the time doing the books for her investment properties.

Debbie says Xero is the perfect fit for her and her properties because of the regular nature of the type of payments and invoicing that investment properties incur, for example, annual insurance premiums, bi-annual water rates and weekly rents.

In Xero, Debbie sets these up as repeating transactions, and automatically approves them so they are left awaiting payment. It took just half an hour for Debbie to set up 40 repeating transactions across all her properties in the one company. If Debbie looks into her accounts receivable or accounts payable and sees these transactions are still unpaid, "alarm bells start ringing" and she knows who owes her, or who she owes.

Debbie wanted an accounting system that was more intelligent than the one she was using. With her old system, Debbie had to manually record spend and receive from a hard copy (eg. a bank statement). She still had to enter all her recurring transactions and change the dates herself. Debbie was the only one there to pick up mistakes – the system didn't do it for her. With Xero she now has faith in her accounting system and she can relax knowing that Xero is doing the work for her.
