How an art gallery owner found beauty in numbers

Ever since Anne Siegried was a young girl, her world’s been immersed in art. Her mom, an art history major, brought her along to explore every museum and art show in the Charleston area. It’s what ultimately sparked Anne’s interest in art –  later turning into a love for the abstract. So, when she made the decision to open her own gallery, George Gallery, she hoped to make the same kind of impact on her customers.

Making art accessible

“Art has always been a part of my life – that’s just part of who I am. I’m lucky that it’s always been a part of my life, but I understand that hasn’t been everyone’s experience. I want to make it more accessible so people know that art is for everyone,” she says.

But for Anne, the excitement of owning her own business came with some uncertainty about the gallery’s books. When she brought in an accountant to help with that side of things, it was important for her to remain involved.

From abstract to Accounting

“Accounting is not my most comfortable area, but the relationship between my Wells Fargo account and Xero has been great. I can open Xero and see that everything is running the way it should be against my books here. It’s a good way for my Wells Fargo account, Xero, myself and my accountant to make sure we’re all on the same page,” says Anne.


The integration between Xero and her bank account enables Anne to make smarter decisions about the business without being consumed by every part of the accounting process. She’s able to view a timely and accurate snapshot of the gallery’s overall financial health and, most importantly, know the current state of her cash flow. And those kind of insights are invaluable for Anne.

“We all have our strengths and weaknesses. But when you run your own business, you kind of need to have your hand in everything,” she says.
