The fresh faces of accounting and bookkeeping

Four girls at Xerocon represent the fresh faces of accounting and bookkeeping

Sheree, Rebecca, Sian and Gemma

The interlude called drinks at the end of Day 1 at Xerocon Australia is the chance to network and hear some lovely stories. Like the time four Gen-Ys randomly met on the way to an accounting conference.

Coming from all over Australia, these four young women sharing the Xerocon experience tonight are determined to stamp their individual marks on the business world in the areas of accounting and bookkeeping.

Rebecca and Gemma met in the lobby of their hotel, both looking for directions to the Australian Technology Park, they got to chatting and realised they weren’t just going to the same conference, but both had similar backgrounds in accounting and had created their own businesses to get a better work-life balance.

Then wonder of wonders they meet Sheree and Sian in the registration queue, where they got talking and found they were all peas in a geographically-diverse pod, hailing from Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. They’re all outgoing and down-to-earth, striking out on their own (or with a business partner).

They all have been using Xero from between 3 and 12 months and are loving the conference. “It’s really informative. Between Xero and the add-ons it’s going to make our lives easier and our client’s businesses easier. We’re excited to be able to go back home and share it with everyone.”

There’s a common driver here, a bit of a Gen-Y thing they reckon – characteristics of flexible, transient, headstrong, loyal and hardworking.

“We’ve been magnetized by young independent energy. Wanting to march to the beat of our own drums. Doing things our way in our own style. We’ve gathered enough confidence in our own right and own skills that we know we can do it ourselves. We don’t put up with shit.”

Enough said, cheers to Sheree, Rebecca, Sian and Gemma. They’ll go far.

Fly the flag for EASE Sian … what a great blog- it wonderful to see a group of young, enthusiastic women, expanding their knowledge and then being able to pay this forward to businesses that they serve. Excellent
