Shopping Small on Saturday

Saturday (Small Business Saturday) was day 2 of the US holiday shopping season that follows Thanksgiving. People did appear to be opening their wallets and we’ll know for sure how businesses have fared when reports filter through later this week.

As well as supporting small business with a special retail solution offer, the Xero team got out and about, meeting and shopping at local businesses in support of Shop Small.

In San Francisco, Craig and Catherine started with a cup of coffee at Blue Bottle Coffee at the ferry building and swung by a local retailer, Wingtip, to grab some local “solutions for the modern gentleman.” They couldn’t pass up an early gift for the holidays too when the walked into a local toy store, Jeffery’s Toys.

I ventured locally in Union City to visit my favorite coffee shop, Paddy’s Coffee Shop, and swung by World’s Yoga and then Chloe Urban Chic Boutique for a few holiday gifts.

Shop Small doesn’t just apply to restaurants and retailers, but all sorts of businesses. Peter literally fell for Small Business Saturday when he ventured out to Lodi, California to go skydiving at the Parachute Center.

Every small business has its story of hard work and determination. Paddy’s Coffee Shop is one that exemplifies the spirit and positive impact of small business. After opening its doors 10 years ago, it has become a big supporter of the local community. Whether it is through local artists hosting their artwork to being the go to place for students to study, from sponsoring local events to employing local students, Paddy (owner) and Paddy’s Coffee Shop has had a positive influence on this city of 70K people in the Bay Area.

Shop Small doesn’t start and end with yesterday’s event – it is year round.  Remember it this holiday season and support those that help make your community better.
