1000+ more bank feeds

Today we’ve released automated bank feeds for another 1,000 more banks across the globe. We’ve spent the last few months adding support for this next wave of banks and in doing so have taken a step closer to supporting banks that use multi-factor authentication (MFA) for internet banking.

We now have bank feeds for some of the most popular banks in the USA including Bank of America, HSBC and Wachovia, and in the UK, Citibank and Smile, along with many other banks. Some of these banks require security questions as part of the sign-in process and this latest release enables feeds with many of the banks that use this method of authentication.

For those of you waiting for banks that use full MFA (e.g. security tokens, security images and more complex security questions) we are looking to launch support for these in July. This should include Barclays and Lloyds TSB Business in the UK, Wells Fargo in the US and TD Bank in Canada. These are just a few of the banks in what will be more than 1,500 new MFA feeds, so there’s a very good chance that your bank will be available soon.

The best test of whether you’re able to receive feeds is to sign into your Xero account and give it a go. If you sign into Xero and you now have a green ‘Get Bank Feeds’ button next to your bank account, you’re on your way.

Xero still allows you to upload bank statements manually so you can still get started in the lead up to automated feeds being activated.

Any word if RBC (Canada) is on the horizon?

Offshore UK (Jersey etc) do not seem to work for any feeds I have tried. They use the same security as the UK sites, but you log onto offshore specific versions of the bank websites. Is it possible to get feeds from the offshore ones given the security is the same – eg. Natwest UK – https://www.nwolb.com and Natwest Offshore – https://www.onlinebanking.natwestoffshore.com

Hi Jesse, RBC (Canada) is defined as a full MFA bank, so we expect to release feeds for it with other MFA banks in July.

What about Bank of Ireland UK? This was previously supposed to be supported but after investigation with Xero it was only Bank of Ireland personal. BOI Business uses certificates to authenticate. Does this mean that it will finally be supported in July?

Hi Jon, Yodlee need to maintain separate data gathering agent for each distinct internet banking site. There is a ‘Natwest Bank – Offshore Accounts (US)’ bank available to select – have you tried this? If you have can you please email our customer support team with your details and we can investigate of this should also provide automated feeds for Natwest accounts held in Jersey.

+1 for NatWest/RBS offshore (Isle of Man in my case) which we normally access via the RBS “EQ” system.

Have tried all the NatWest options with no luck.

Just noticed that NatWest UK Bankline is now working though – not sure how I missed that but thanks! :-) :-)

We understand that Yodlee have a new Bank of Ireland (Business) agent in the pipeline. We’ll see if they can provide an update on when we can expect to surface this in Xero.

I assume Suncorp (AUS) will be included in the MFA release in July? This will be great news for us, as a majority of our clients use Suncorp for their business banking, and they all use security tokens. Cheers.

I notice that HSBC UK have started rolling out full MFA – Will they be part of the July update, or will their automated feeds stop working at some point in the future?

Alastair Grigg
26 May 2011 #

@Mark – Automated bank feeds for HSBC UK transactional accounts are enabled via a direct bank feed solution, which will be unaffected by their roll out of MFA for Internet Banking. However, feeds for HSBC UK Credit Card accounts are enabled through Yodlee so this will prevent customers who adopt MFA from using these feeeds until we release support for MFA.

@Brad, Good news RBC, TD, BMO and CIBC are all due to become available when we release support for MFA in July.

@Brendon, First National Bank of Colorado will also become available when we release MFA.

Please support one of the big bank in Switzerland: UBS or Crédit Suisse. Alternative will be Cantonal Banks (they all share the same subsystem) and post finance.

Your product will be a real success here, no alternative, ebanking of Switzerland banks is disappointing, money move, lot of small entreprise and startup…

Hi Dennis, We have asked Yodlee to look at AIB and BOI Business banking sites as a priority for new data sources. They recently released beta access to BOI’s UK personal banking and AIB’s UK business banking sites, but we’re waiting for an update on the availability of those three Irish business banking sites. Will advise as soon as we know more.

5 June 2011 #

Hi Matthew, Bank feeds are available now in Xero Business from ABSA, First National Bank (ZA), Nedbank and Standard Bank, with Investec Bank coming online once we release support for MFA. Automated feeds from these banks will also be available when we extend our Yodlee integration to the Xero Personal app, which is something we are planning for later this year. Are there other major banks that you would like to see available?

Hi Alastair,
I have been trying to Integrate Kotak Mahindra Bank(India)…which has multi-factor authentication. First Level is username and password. Level 2 is Access Code which is sent via an email or mobile. There are no issues at Level 1. Post clearance of Level 1 i get an option to authorize. When I click to enter the Access code the website goes into heavy processing (into a limbo state) and I am unable to actually even get a chance to enter the Access code.

Its been only a day since I have used your product and I know all accounting. It seems I have reached the right product finally. I have already integrated one bank account successfully. I wish to integrate my second bank account and I am sure I shall be able to get a billing plan approved if the above problem gets resolved. I have tested so many products and none match your standards. Kindly please resolve the above issue at the earliest.

Cheers
Sagun

Hi Sagun, Sorry about the problems you’ve had with activating bank feeds for your Kotak Mahindra Bank account. It turns out that this is a full MFA bank source that we’d mistakenly turned on before releasing support for full MFA banks. You’ll need to cancel or deactivate this bank feed for now and reactivate these when we release full MFA support in July. In the meantime you can easily manually import bank statements for this account. Thanks for your positive feedback on Xero and we look forward to having you onboard as a customer.

Hi Alastair,

I’m very happy to hear that you’ve got bank feeds working for the big 4 SA banks. That’s excellent news. I’d also like to recommend that you add Capitec Bank in South Africa to that list. They should be very willing to assist.

Jon B
13 June 2011 #

Hi What is the feeds situation with Swiss banks, especially the cantonal banks? Thanks.

Alastair Grigg
15 June 2011 #

@Jon – as mentioned earlier Yodlee and Xero don’t yet collectively have enough customers in Switzerland to develop Swiss bank feeds ahead of development still underway for banks in the US and UK. As our Swiss customer grows and Yodlee complete more of the bank feeds in these other key regions we hope to be able to turn our attention to Swiss banks, but I can’t provide any firm timeline for this at this stage.

@Shihan – the situation in the Middle East is the same, with Yodlee not yet having the opportunity to develop feeds for banks in that region. Again we can’t provide any firm timelines on when this might change, but we don’t expect it would be until next year at the earliest.

and the Bank of Ireland one

Toby
16 June 2011 #

Still no MBNA (for business) credit card in the UK – I do hope this is added soon!!

Alastair Grigg
16 June 2011 #

@Philip, Yodlee are doing a feasibility check on Ulster Bank (Ireland) Business banking site and if the outcome is positive then we expect them to release a beta agent as the next step in establishing feeds for these accounts. Unfortunately feeds for Bank of Ireland (Ireland) Business accounts can not be enabled as the BOI Business site uses a form of dialogue box as part of their user login that Yodlee isn’t able to support.

@Toby, MBNA (UK) Business Credit Cards is still a beta agent. We would expect this to be released as a live feed within the next month or so, but this will depend on the number of customer who activate the beta feed and Yodlee’s other beta development priorities.

Alastair Grigg
23 June 2011 #

@ James – Sorry, there may have been some confusion with above post, but currently the full range of automated bank feeds are only available for accounts in Xero Business. We’re working on extending the Yodlee enabled bank feeds into Xero Personal and hope to release this capability sometime later this year.

Alastair Grigg
7 July 2011 #

Hi Mike,
We’ve just started the first end to end testing for the next phase of Yodlee powered bank feeds to support banks like TD Bank Canada that use full MFA. This feature is bundled with some other major updates in our next product next release, so the release date will also be determined by the completion of these other features. Will have a more definite update shortly, but at this stage the release date is looking like being sometime early August. Thanks for your patience on this.

I think it would be a good idea to publish a list of all supported banks somewhere, rather than a “try in xero and see” solution. For example, I want to sign up for Xero Personal (and have a bunch of friends who are interested as well), but will only do so if all our banks are supported. (the bank I am unsure about is La Caixa – Spanish bank – i don’t want to have to go through the entire signup process, get an account etc. to eventually find out it isn’t supported). Assumedly you have an internal list of all supported banks, or alternatively, can make API calls to your various feed providers to output a full list of currently supported banks….

Any update on AIB (Ireland) Business Accounts?

Ian Morrison
21 July 2011 #

Is there any news on the July Barclays update?

Alastair Grigg
21 July 2011 #

Hi Kieran,
Delayed response – we may provide a simple bank feed lookup function in the Help Centre, but in the meantime you can sign-up to Xero very easily and just use the Demo Company provided to start adding a bank account. Selecting the bank name shows if bank feeds are available for that bank (note: you can’t go on and save a new bank account in the Demo company).
Also note we don’t yet provide automated bank feeds into Xero personal – this is something we are working on a hope to have available later this year.

Alastair Grigg
22 July 2011 #

@Robin, Yodlee have just provided us an update on their new (beta) agents they are actively working on. Despite us pressing for the inclusion of AIB (Ireland) Business this site has not yet made it onto the beta program. This is the same for Ulster Bank (Ireland) Business. We’ll continue to ask Yodlee to progress both these agents and provide any updates as soon as we know more.

Yodlee have advised that an agent for BOI (Ireland) Business can’t be developed because that site uses a particular form MFA dialog box that their platform doesn’t support.

@Ian, We’re underway with testing the next phase of Yodlee integration to support banks like Barclays that use full MFA for Internet Banking. As mentioned above, this MFA support is part of a larger Xero product update, which is now tracking to be released around mid August.

In addition to Xero releasing support for MFA sites, we’ve also got Yodlee to develop the agent for Barclays (UK) Business accounts. This agent is in the final stages of testing and we hope they will have it available around the same time we release MFA support next month. Again, thanks for your patience on this.

It looks like xero’s good name is being damaged by relying on a third party that seems to keep missing their promised deadlines.

I hope that this is soon resolved

Alastair Grigg
23 July 2011 #

@Earl, As explained in my last comment just above, releasing support for MFA has been delayed until mid August when it will be released as part of a wider Xero product update.

@David, While we are dependent on Yodlee to develop and release new agents for banks or types of accounts they don’t currently support, the delay in releasing support for existing bank sources that require MFA has been on our side. Developing the additional user flows and interactions with the Yodlee service where muli factor authentication steps are involved has proven to be more difficult then we originally anticipated. However we are now progressing into the testing phase of the project and looking forward to releasing this soon to enable many additional automated banks feed sources.

Where can we see a list of all available banks?

Alastair Grigg
3 August 2011 #

@Val – There are a couple of ways to quickly check. The first option is to login and open the Demo company, where you can add a bank account with the name of the bank(s) you would like to check. This will show you if bank feeds are available yet for this bank. Note you can’t save your own bank account in the Demo Company. Alternatively you can add a Trial organisation and go through the same steps of adding and saving your bank account in this organisation, which will show if feeds are available.

Just to add to Dennis’s request. We could really do with Irish AIB internet *business* banking (IBB) support which is a two-factor authentication job. AIB are so painful. No export in any of the recognised formats. It’s a manual Excel hack job every time.

Matt Vickers
11 January 2012 #

@Sean – Yodlee has business banking agents for Allied Irish Banking (UK) and Ulster Bank (UK) sites, but have yet to launch beta agents for the equivalent Irish banking sites. We have again asked that they progress releasing beta agents for these Ireland sites as a priority.

Sean ORourke
29 January 2012 #

Thanks for the reply @matt. Seeing as the Irish version of Ulster Banks Bankline is almost identical to the UK version I hope that this can go live pretty soon. I note that this  blog started in May 11 so it’s disappointing that there is not a single Irish business bank account that is compatable. Auto bank feeds is the killer feature of Xero and I feel that your competitors are gaining massive market share the longer this draggs on (Sage One for example). We all know that once a business has made a switch to a new accounting software it’s very hard to get them to switch again. If Xero had Irish Auto bank feeds it would  easily be the “best in class” . Thanks, Sean

@Jeanette Sorry, neither of those feeds are currently supported.

For anyone else wondering which feeds are supported and which aren’t, our Help Center has instructions on how to determine whether or not a feed is supported by Yodlee.

27 February 2012 #

What can be done to get these banks on the list. The UFS is a registered bank – full bank audits etc. Has 1.5billion under management. And thousands of user accounts. I know this is a smallish number – but over 500 hundred accounts are NFP organisations that I think would fit the Xero target customer

Matt Vickers
28 February 2012 #

@Jeanette If you want to see a bank supported that isn’t currently supported, you can do a few things:

- Contact customer care and let them know which banks you’re after.
- Create bank accounts within your paying organisation with these banks as the bank names for those accounts. We use this to help us decide which feeds to pursue next. The more paying customers that want a particular feed, the higher that feed is prioritised.

However, the best thing to do is to contact the bank in question and let them know that you’d like them to integrate with Xero directly and to get in touch with us. If a bank agrees to provide us with a feed, it’s a fairly simple process for us to set this up.

One of my clients asked me to evaluate your software and everything looks good except for one point. Can you tell me definitively if there is or will be a Bank of Ireland feed solution. We cannot go ahead without it.

Matt Vickers
27 March 2012 #

@Billy – Hi Billy – if you’re in the Republic of Ireland and using Bank of Ireland personal banking (365 Online), the feeds should work. However, if you’re using Bank of Ireland business banking (Business Online), Yodlee’s advice to us is that they are unable to support these accounts at this time.

If you’re trying to setup Business Online accounts, you have a few options available to you:

- You can ask the bank to make the accounts available through 365 Online
- You could import transactions manually
- You could contact the bank and request that they talk to us about supplying data to us directly

I hope that helps.

I have a few questions with regard to the above: (i) Have you extended the Yodlee integration to Xero Personal? (ii) If not, by when do you expect to do so?

I also have two additional questions (i) When will Xero Personal be able to handle multiple currencies? (ii) Do you plan to add any Mauritian based banks to Yodlee and Xero, and if so, by when? I would expect that there would be a strong demand for your services in the offshore banking sector. Mauritian banks such as HSBC (Mauritius), Mauritius Commercial Bank, AfrAsia Bank etc should be considered.

I look forward to your reply.

Matt Vickers
11 January 2013 #

Hi @Shane – Yodlee has been extended to Xero Personal. It’s available right now.

There are no current plans to add multi-currency to Xero Personal but that’s not to say it won’t happen in future. You can vote for multi-currency in our Personal Community. https://community.xero.com/personal/

If there’s a bank you’d like to see supported (such as a bank in Switzerland or Mauritius) you should contact bankfeedhelp@xero.com – we can pass the request on to Yodlee. However they prioritise these requests according to their own development schedule and needs, so we can’t give any guarantees around when support might be added. The more requests we get – the more likely the feed will be added.

Just wondering if we are any closer to having Irish bank feeds for AIB Business customers? Live feeds for Ulster Bank have been available for a few months now, would be good to see more progress on this…outside of NZ, Aus, USA, & UK Ireland must rank pretty high in terms of Xero users but with only 1 bank having life feeds in this country I feel we deserve better. Hi Sheena,
Unfortunately feeds for Bank of Ireland (Ireland) Business accounts still can’t be enabled because the BOI Business site uses a form of dialogue box as part of their user account login that Yodlee, the data aggregation service that we use for enabling most of our automated bank feeds in the UK, isn’t able to support.
