Xero launches in the UK

Xero launched into the massive UK market on 6 March – a big milestone for us here at Xero. We selected the 2020 Group Members Day Out conference in Coventry for the big day, and the response was even better than we’d hoped.

Our UK business development director Mark Hallet and I were kept extremely busy at the event as people crowded around to watch the video and fire questions at us.

The entire process leading up to launch has been incredibly interesting and fun. We’ve gone out and spoken to lots of business owners, accountants and even our competitors to make sure the Xero product is perfect. The feedback has almost unanimously been that with we have hit the nail on the head.

One of our first customers, Lee Edwards of Crofton Plumbing and maintenancesays: “Xero has all the accounting functions I need, but is simple to use, and easy to understand. All the information I need to know is in graphs and charts that mean something to me.”

We find when speaking to prospective customers that they just get it – it’s really not a hard sell. The key challenge for us is to get our message out there, through all the other accounting software noise. If only I could spend one hour with every small business owner in the UK, but given there are about 4.4 million of them, it would take me 500 odd years to get to them all!

Our key message is ‘Xero takes away the pain of your current accounting system, by being easy to use, saving you time and providing clarity about your cashflow at all times’.

We still want to deliver more features and enhancements to Xero, and are currently developing a very cool system of alerts and notifications, where Xero will do the thinking for you and alert you when you need to do something – a bit like an accounting system you don’t have to think about. UK customers are certainly enjoying the ongoing upgrades that are coming through every two weeks.

We had the pleasure to meet with Dennis Howlett who is a key industry commentator and expert on all matters accounting here in the UK. Here is one of his posts about Xero.

We also met with John Stokdyk of AccountingWeb. John is a really nice guy and tells it like it is. Here is his article about the interview he did with us.

Interestingly, our story has been picked up by all sorts of people, includingAccountancy Age.

Our next big event is the Business Start Up Expo at Excel in London over 25 & 26 April. Come and see us if you are in the neighbourhood.
