These five video courses are designed to help you understand your club’s finances and set you up for success.

The financial viability of football clubs at all levels is essential to growing the game, and these football-specific education courses will help your club understand and manage the finances.

Course 1: Get to know the profit and loss

Gain an understanding of the different elements of a Profit & Loss account (P&L) so you can make better business decisions. Identify the different types of income, direct costs and overheads in a football club to confidently calculate gross profit and net profit. We’ll also show you how to produce and customise a P&L in Xero for your own club.

Course 2 - Get to know the balance sheet

Learn about the different components of a balance sheet. You’ll identify different types of assets and liabilities and understand what equity is so you can see the value of your football club. Learn how depreciation works for fixed assets and also how to produce and customise a balance sheet in Xero to suit your club.

Course 3 - Prepare budgets to stay on track

Use a budget to plan and set targets for the future. Learn about budgeting and why it’s an important part of the planning process for your club. Learn how to prepare a simple budget on a spreadsheet and a more detailed one in Xero. Compare budgeted figures with actual results and observe any variances. Analysis of the results helps identify any successes for future reference, or areas that need improvement.

Course 4 - Assess your club's financial performance

Learn why it’s important to measure your club’s performance to set your club up for success. Learn how to measure performance using key performance indicators (KPI’s) and explore other, non-financial methods that can be adapted for your club.

Course 5 - Control cash effectively

Learn why cash is a key to a football club’s sustainability. You’ll learn different ways to help you manage cash and the difference between cash and profit. You’ll also learn how to prepare a cash flow forecast so you can avoid your club running out of money to pay expenses and bills.
